Abstract : Apparent molar volumes (Vϕ), apparent molar compressibility ( ) and viscosity B coefficients for 2,4-dihydroxyacetophenone and 2,6-dihydroxyacetophenone (0.03-0.21) mol·kg−1 in ethanol solutions were determined from the density, ultrasonic velocity and viscosity measurements at (298.15, 303.15, 308.15, and 318.15) K. The data (Vϕ) and ( ) were utilized to estimate the limiting values of apparent partial molar properties ( , ) and experimental slopes (Sv, Sk). The structure-making or structure-breaking ability of the solutes have also been discussed in terms of the sign of . The free energy of activation of viscous flow per mole of the solvent Δμ10# and the solute Δμ20# for the solutions were also explained in terms of transition state theory.
